Allianz Partners has just released its ‘Top 10 Thanksgiving Destination Index,’ which outlines Americans’ top domestic and international vacation destinations in 2022.
To do so, the company reviewed over 2 million aircraft schedules for the Thanksgiving holiday travel period.
“Thanksgiving travel tends to provide a deep sense of nostalgia for Americans, whether continuing traditions at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City or reuniting with family on the beaches of Mexico,” says Daniel Durazo, director of external communications at Allianz Partners USA.
“No matter where you’re headed, the freedom to travel is once again something to be thankful for and deserves to be protected. A travel insurance policy can provide peace of mind for any Thanksgiving plans by safeguarding pre-paid travel investments from covered unforeseen events like trip cancellations or interruptions, travel delays, baggage issues or even medical emergencies.”
It should come as no surprise that New York City, a favorite for the vacation season, tops the list of domestic locations on Americans’ travel plans for the fall. Seattle comes in second, which is also not unusual considering how many outdoor enthusiasts are generally drawn to the forested Pacific Northwest.
Orlando moved up significantly from 2021 to take third place, illustrating a general tendency toward warm-weather locations. Aside from that, Orlando is a gateway to well-known theme parks, and now that its cruise port is operating normally again, many cruise passengers will be coming here as well.
Fort Lauderdale comes in at number 10 after dropping off the list in 2021, and Washington, D.C., at number 9, made the cut for the first time in five years. The remaining slots in the Top 10 are taken by other significant American cities, including Boston, Atlanta, Phoenix, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Dallas.
Although Thanksgiving Day is not observed in other nations, American vacationers who want an international getaway for the holiday continue to favor Mexican locations. The top three places for Americans traveling abroad for Thanksgiving this year are Cancun, San Jose del Cabo, and Puerto Vallarta.
European favorites London and Paris also appeared on the list, ranking fourth and tenth, respectively. The remaining four positions were taken by Caribbean beach vacation spots: Oranjestad (Aruba), Nassau, Punta Cana, and Montego Bay.
