Sky Harbor Airport officials want travelers to know there is more to flying during the Thanksgiving holiday than checking bags and standing in terminal lines.
“Thanksgiving is one of the busiest times of the year – not just in the skies but on roads around the airport,” airport officials said in a release. “This can make even picking up or dropping off family and friends potentially stressful.”
Some of the best advice, according to officials, is to take advantage of the 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station for pick-up and drop-off.
The 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station is on the southwest corner of 44th and Washington streets and can be reached from highways, major streets and Valley Metro Rail.
Another way to avoid issues at the airport is to avoid circling the terminals, according to airport staff. Instead, they advise using cell phone lots, east of Terminal 4, west of the west economy garage and at the 44th Street PHX Sky Train Station.
Here are some additional travel tips:
- Reserve parking in advance. Book parking at skyharbor.com/parkphx and arrive early.
- Reserve a time to go through the TSA security checkpoint screening area using the PHX RESERVE program. Schedule a time at the Sky Harbor website: www.skyharbor.com.
- Double-check what’s in bags and check the TSA Prohibited Items List.
- Confirm flight status before heading to the airport. Arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure for domestic flights and three hours for international travel.
- For those traveling with a hidden disability such as dementia or autism, reserve a Compassion Cacti lanyard in advance, which signals to employees that extra time, assistance or patience may be required. For more: skyharbor.com/lanyard for information.
