THE MOST popular holiday destinations to visit in 2023 have been revealed – and a Spanish hotspot took first place.

The recent study, conducted by Airbnb, looked at trending destinations for the next 12 months.

The research looked at searches made in 2022 for 2023 breaks, compared to searches in 2021 for 2022 breaks.

Taking the top spot was Malaga in Spain – a popular holiday destination for Brits.

The city is known for being the birthplace to Pablo Picasso, as well as being the gateway to the Costa del Sol, despite having 16 of its own beaches.

Malaga is consistently one of the cheapest European cities to get to, with multiple airlines competing from regional airports.

And the new easyHotel Malaga City Centre makes staying there a bargain, too with rooms from just £35 a night.

Sun Online Travel recently went to Malaga – here is what you can expect from a holiday to the Spanish destination.

Malaga was the only European destination to make the top 10 list according to Airbnb.

Other destinations included Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in Australia.

Auckland and Queenstown in New Zealand both made the cut as well.

And three destinations in Brazil made the top 10, along with Bangkok in Thailand.

Other travel experts have revealed the top holiday destinations to visit in 2023 as well.

Rough Guides’ list includes Leeds as one of the top spots thanks to the city’s food and drink scene, art galleries, and theatres.

And Wales made the list for Conde Nast, which praised its outdoor walking routes as well as its ‘rejuvenated food scene’.

If you’re looking for the best value destinations, a survey conducted by Starling Bank found Portugal’s capital city Lisbon to be the best value.
