Millions of Brits plan to work while taking personal holidays – and become blended travellers in 2023.
A poll of 2,000 adults who are able to work remotely found that 7/10 of those who have combined work and pleasure in the past intend to do so again next.
37% of these people love that they can travel the world without taking annual leave.
33% also noted that there is less congestion at airports when they are not crowded during peak times.
31% of respondents appreciated the lower cost of flying to the UK when they are most likely to be working.
Of those who have previously travelled and worked abroad, the average ‘blended’ traveller spends five hours working each day.
Naomi Hahn is the spokesperson Skyscanner, which commissioned the research, said: “The remote working population are making the digital nomad trend we’ve seen emerge over the last few years permanent.
“The pandemic limited our travel options for years but expanded our options and flexibility as a workforce.
“Now that the world is open for exploration again, it’s great to see workers holding onto this workplace flexibility and blending it with the travel opportunities available to them.
“Blending remote work in travel can often mean more convenient and even cheaper travel.”
Barcelona is the most sought-after destination for a vacation.
The study showed that 66% of those who took a trip abroad had their partners with them. 60% also brought their mates. 56% also brought their family.
And 59% of those who work remotely have taken a personal break to allow them to get work done.
For 59 percent, the hotel is the best place to work while on holiday. However, for 40 percent, they will go to a restaurant.
Only 12 percent of workers are uncomfortable with holiday work.
60% believe that combining work and leisure activities on a vacation abroad is a good idea.
These holidays are best suited for city breaks, which are followed by sports holidays and beach holidays.
OnePoll’s study shows that Barcelona is the most preferred destination for a combined leisure and work trip.
Paris, Madrid and Florence were also in the top five. Lisbon, Amsterdam, and Dublin were in top 10.
Instagram was identified as the primary source of blended-travel inspiration by 30 percent of respondents. They cite the social network as the place where they see people blending work and leisure on holiday.
A spokesperson Skyscanner, added: “Compared to places like the US, the amount of annual leave given to UK workers is relatively good, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t adjustments to be made.
“Blended trips are a personal choice, and they aren’t for everyone.
“For those who wish to escape the stress of their workday and travel abroad offers a great option.
“But for blended travellers happy to pack their laptop in their carry-on, there are opportunities to bring your work to some inspiring and exotic locations – without eating into your leave allowance.”
