Chongqing – The city of Chongqing received 425,000 overnight tourists, during the New Year’s Day holiday, according to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Culture and Tourism Development. Online travel agency Fliggy also reports that Chongqing is among the six most popular holiday destinations during the holiday.

According to the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce, retail sales in central business districts and key monitored commercial and trade enterprises reached 7.285 billion yuan. The retail sales of key enterprises such as the Chongqing Department and Yonghui Superstores increased more than three times compared to the three days before the festival.

The number of high-end hotel bookings in Chongqing increased by roughly 20% year over year. Skiing, hot springs, paradise, ancient towns, and other themed scenic spots are among the most popular. For example, Wulong Karst Tourist Area had 46,457 visitors; Nanchuan Jinfo Mountain received 29,480 visitors; Fengdu Nantian Lake Scenic Area received 15,559 visitors; The Hongyadong Scenery Area received 136,152 visitors; Chongqing Happy Valley received 30,122 visitors; and Meixin Red Wine Town received 13,196 visitors.

There were 51 performances presented by professional art groups during the holiday. With 457,300 visitors and 388,100 online users, 43 public libraries and 41 cultural centers offered free and extensive services.

The city’s districts and counties organized 125 events attended by 209,900 people. For example, Beibei District hosted the 7th Chongqing Cultural Tourism Consumption Season (Winter), and Changshou District hosted the 5th “Taste of the Year in Memory” and 2022 Spring Festival Documentary Photography Exhibitions, both of which were well-attended by the public.

More than 40,000 New Year pictures and Spring Festival couplets were distributed to residents across all districts and counties, and over 50 traditional cultural experience exhibitions and sales events were organized.
