The city of Heraklion on the island of Crete, is among the world’s safest family-friendly vacation destinations, according to a report released recently by The Family Vacation Guide, a US-based online travel platform.
With a score of 7.45/10 points, Heraklion takes second place on the family safety list, after Zurich, Switzerland, which is in first place.
Heraklion ranks fourth on the guide’s crime index while with an annual average temperature of 19 degrees Celsius it is considered ideal for providing families with plenty to do.
The Family Vacation Guide also ranks Heraklion among its Top 3 vacation destinations for family-friendly activities.
The guide took the percentage of child-friendly landmarks, nature activities and fun activities and calculated an average for each of the cities.
Heraklion’s percentage of family-friendly activities is at 34.01 percent.
According to the survey, there are plenty of historical sites to visit in Heraklion, and around three miles south-east of the city is the Bronze Age palace of Knossos that is widely regarded as the oldest city in Europe.
Pattaya, Thailand, tops the list of the the best vacation destinations for family-friendly activities.
