The Globe & Mail’s annual Canadian travel guide “Hidden Canada” has been released, and Oro-Medonte has ranked as a top undiscovered destination in Canada.

The national newspaper’s annual travel guide highlights outstanding travel destinations across the country. This year, the Township of Oro-Medonte was visited by the writer, and selected to be in this guide for the first time ever.

Globe contributing writer Stacy Lee Kong visited Oro-Medonte in the fall of 2021; she was impressed by the township’s rural charm and thriving agri-tourism scene. She writes “it’s an ideal place to get back to nature without having to make an hours-long trek.”

Several of Oro-Medonte’s businesses were featured in the article, representing a range of enticing experiences that are available to locals and tourists. Horseback riding with a professional equestrian guide and luxury glamping at Glen Oro Farm featured prominently in the travel guide, and McNiven Farms “secret garden” experience, where guests can explore flora and fauna on their farm and take home a mason jar of flowers, was also mentioned.

Forest walks with adorable alpacas at Davidson Estates Alpacas were covered as well, along with an array of culinary and other experiences available at Quayle’s Brewery, Ktchn Restaurant at Braestone, Vetta Spa, and more.

Seeing Oro-Medonte get recognized in a prestigious national publication is good news for all the hardworking tourism operators in the region.

“Here in Oro-Medonte we have world-class tourism experiences close to a major city,” says Luke Sedgewick of Glen Oro. “Being featured in the Globe & Mail has given us an incredible boost. We’re getting recognized on both a national and international level and fielding new inquiries from people around the world that are excited to travel and explore this area. Oro-Medonte is officially ‘on the map!’”

Mayor Harry Hughes commented, “It was very exciting to see the Township of Oro-Medonte included in this Globe & Mail publication. Our rural township is home to some amazing and unique tourism experiences and for these businesses to get this kind of exposure is remarkable, especially at this time when these businesses have been so impacted by the pandemic.”

The Globe & Mail travel guide puts Oro-Medonte in the company of “undiscovered” destinations from coast to coast, including Brookvale, Prince Edward Island, Skoki Valley, Alberta and other hidden Canada gems.

According to the Globe & Mail, the publication is read by 21.7 million Canadians every month.
