Allianz Partners USA’s Top Valentine’s Day Destinations report reviewed more than 700,000 itineraries for round-trip flights from US airports departing between 2 and 6 February, and returning between 9 and 13 February.
Searches for Valentine’s Day travel plans had jumped by 45 per cent compared with 2022. Domestic travel continues to dominate, with 71 per cent of itineraries being for US destinations, while just under a third (29 per cent) are for international trips. Allianz said this was ‘typical’ for the season.
Florida remained a popular destination, with Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Miami filling the top three slots for domestic travel during the period. Hawaii was the second most popular destination for domestic travellers, with Honolulu (fourth) and Kahului (fifth).
For international trips, Mexico remained the dominant choice for US travellers seeking a romantic getaway, with Cancun, San Jose del Cabo and Puerto Vallarta topping the leaderboard. The West Indies were also popular, with destinations such as Aruba, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, US Virgin Islands, and Turks and Caicos taking up most of the remaining top 10 slots.
The Central American nation of Costa Rica is also popular this year, with the cities of San Jose and Liberia appearing in eighth and ninth places respectively.
