Travellers from the most significant markets are choosing Greece as their favourite holiday destination for this year.
Such conclusions have been reached through the recent report of the Long-Haul Travel Barometer May-August published this week by the European Travel Commission (ETC), together with Eurail BV, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
The study was focused on travel intentions in the following six overseas markets:
- Brazil
- Canada
- China
- Japan
- Russia
- United States
The study conducted in the markets mentioned above revealed that the Hellenic Republic is among the top 10 most preferred destinations in Europe for travellers from Brazil, Canada, Japan, the United States and Russia.
Previously, a report published by ETC revealed that the Hellenic Republic moved up a spot to fourth in the list of most preferred countries for travel by citizens of European countries.
The study also revealed that intention for long-haul travel remains weak in most important markets amid raised concerns due to the Coronavirus situation, as well as travel-related costs.
According to the figures provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), since the start of the pandemic, authorities in Greece have registered a total of 3,436,046 cases of Coronavirus, while a total of 29,756 people have died during the same period.
Despite the current epidemiological situation, authorities in Greece earlier this month announced that they would abolish the majority of the restrictions imposed to contain the virus’s further spread.
The decision was confirmed by the country’s Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, while he stressed that starting from May 2, no entry rules would be applied to incoming passengers.
Based on the figures provided by WHO, as of May 15, 2022, a total of 21,043,225 vaccine doses have been administered in the Hellenic Republic.
Greece has often been applauded for the way it managed to keep its travel and tourism industry alive, even amid the devastating situation caused due to the Coronavirus and its new variants.
Recently, the figures provided by the Greek Aviation Service (CAA) revealed that air traffic in Greece so far this year is marking a significant increase, reaching a total of 99,164 flights. Such figures show that the situation fell behind pre-pandemic levels when there were no restrictions imposed, by 3,967 or 9.6 per cent.
Based on a press release published by CAA, the number of passengers registered in the first months of 2019 stood at a total of 10.3 million-22.5 per cent or 2.2 million fewer passengers compared to 2022 figures.
