NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The diverse and historic city of New Haven landed a spot in the The New York Times top places to go in 2023.

In the NYT list, 52 Places to Go in 2023, said New Haven is “a home to tinkerers and rebels, and a treasure trove of contemporary art and architect,” citing the distinctive neighborhoods, thriving cultural life and architecture.

The publication noted the full list of places have all the elements of food, culture, adventure and natural beauty.

“Founded in 1638, it’s a place where people have always tinkered with, mused about and challenged the status quo, which is why the New Haven Preservation Trust is now looking at saving the modernist buildings of the 1970s, which many see as disastrous examples of urban renewal,” said the NYT publication. “Discover one of the best of these brutalist concrete buildings by checking into the new Hotel Marcel, named for its architect, Marcel Breuer. Recently renovated, it’s become the first completely solar-powered, energy-neutral hotel in the United States.”

The list also featured domestic destinations such as South Carolina, Arizona, Colorado.
