Now that Greece has dropped all of its COVID-19 entry rules, the country has been registering a high number of arrivals in several of its destinations.

The Minister of Tourism of Greece, Vassilis Kikilias, said that the country has been seeing very positive data, emphasising that the number of tourists deciding to visit Greece during summer keeps on rising each day, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

Referring to the data provided by a World Travel Market survey, Kikilias said that six of the top ten European tourist destinations that have registered the highest increase compared to 2019 are in Greece.

The Minister said that Mykonos and Rhodes registered an increase of 29 per cent compared to the same period in 2019. Moreover, he explained that Chania registered a 26 per cent increase, followed by Santorini with a 20 per cent increase and Thessaloniki-Halkidiki with a 19 per cent increase.

In addition, the Minister noted that Athens is also ranked very high in urban tourism. Athens holds third place.

Despite these famous destinations registering an increase, the Minister highlighted that other places in Greece that are not as popular as the ones mentioned above have also reported record high occupancy rates. Additionally, in some places, the bookings have reached the end of the year.

Taking into account the high demand, the Minister said the tourist season this year would not end before December.

“The German Condor and InterTouristic, as well as the French tour operators, are asking for packages for October, November, and December, and I also make a statement: The tourist season this year will end in December,” the statement of the Minister reads.

In addition, the Minister promoted other places in Greece, such as those located in the northern part of the country, and said that everyone could find a suitable place depending on their budget.

“We have so many beautiful islands that do not have a strong brand, northern Greece with so much beauty, the Peloponnese, Epirus, Central Greece. Anywhere in Greece, one can find places to have a magical vacation for all wallets,” the Minister stated.

Previously, SchengenVisaInfo.com reported that Greece is a top favourite destination for travellers from France and Italy. Commenting on these figures, the Minister said that despite the unstable global environment, the country has been registering positive data. He also emphasised that the Ministry is strengthening the construction sector.
