During the past few weeks, the American company Airbnb has been making important announcements—like major platform updates and going 100% remote— and has also been sharing valuable information about the travel industry regarding travelers’ behavior and modern travel.
On Wednesday, the company published the Airbnb 2022 Summer Release highlights and shared the Airbnb 2022 summer travel trends highlights report. According to the data gathered by the company in a recent survey, more than 9 out 10 active users are considering traveling this summer, and most of them are going with family and looking for “adventure”.
The company combined the information gathered in the survey and analyzed thousands of monthly searches of its active users during the past few months, to share compelling travel data and reveal the top destinations for summer 2022.
Airbnb considered top destinations worldwide for users across the world, trending destinations in the United States for American travelers, and trending international destinations for American travelers. The results showed that Italy is the favorite international destination for US travelers and Florida is the most popular state for summer travel this 2022.
Top Summer Destinations In The United States
Airbnb analyzed US guests’ behavior and preference when using their platform to find a vacation rental in the United States and the evidence shows that Americans are looking for sunny locations and beautiful beaches when it comes to domestic summer travel. These are the top 10 destinations, searched over 10,000 times during the past few months:
- Walton County, Florida
- Cape San Blas, Florida
- Mexico Beach, Florida
- Fort Myers, Florida
- Stonington, Connecticut
- Cape Coral, Florida
- Forks, Washington
- Big Sur, California
- Four Corners, Florida
- Hampton Bays, New York
Florida is the preferred state to visit during vacations and coastal cities conquer travelers’ interest.
Top Summer International Destinations For American Travelers
Now that international travel is on the rise and more countries have eased COVID-19-related restrictions, travelers from all over the world are eager to explore and visit different cultures and landscapes. Airbnb’s study revised locations that had over 10,000 searches and shared the results of the top international destinations for summer 2022:
- Venice, Italy
- Nassau, The Bahamas
- Capri, Italy
- Puerto Escondido, México
- Tamarindo, Costa Rica
- Quepos, Costa Rica
- Florence, Italy
- Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
- La Paz, Mexico
- Mérida, Mexico
Italy has wonderful summer weather, beautiful locations, and rich culture, and Americans know it. After Italy, Mexico remains an all times favorite.
Top Summer Destinations For WorldWide User
The American company also considered global interest from its users and Europe hosts the most wanted locations for summer 2022 for Airbnb users. These cities also had over 10,000 searches:
- Bodrum, Turkey
- Ibiza, Spain
- Villasimius, Italy
- Devon, UK
- Korčula, Croatia
- San Vito Lo Capo, Italy
- Nîmes, France
- Maine, US
- Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany
- San Teodoro, Italy
The top destination worldwide is Brodum, a fascinating medieval coastal city in Turkey, but Italy still hosts three of the most interesting locations for travelers around the world.
Airbnb’s Study Conclusions
From all these data, Airbnb came up with multiple conclusions that made the company design new strategies on their platform and create new features to adapt to users’ needs, such as the creation of categories. The company noticed that travelers not only want great locations but also unique listings, they want their travel experience to be as special as possible.
Tiny houses, domes, barns, and even treehouses have sparked interest in guests for domestic and international travel. Despite the idea that international travel is far more attractive, US travelers also want to visit American destinations and more than half of the listings booked for summer through the app are located in the United States.
Coastal locations are among Airbnb users’ favorites, but inland locations and villages with low population density are also on the rise. Travelers seem to also enjoy quiet family vacations away from big crowds.
