The number of nights spent by tourists in Germany increased to 48.9 million in June, representing a 60.5 per cent surge compared to the corresponding time in the previous year.
According to a press release issued by the German Office for Statistics, Destatis, the number of overnight stays has approached the pre-pandemic levels, being only 3.4 per cent below those levels, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Furthermore, the number of overnight stays recorded in 2022 shows that those numbers are up from 29.1 million in 2020 to 48.9 million, which indicates better tourism rates for the time being.
Moreover, the number of nights spent by tourists in Germany in May and June of 2022 is quite similar to the one in 2019, implying a strong recovery of pre-pandemic levels when travelling was limited in order to protect public health.
In addition, 27 million nights were spent at hotels, inns and guesthouses, representing 57 per cent of the total overnight stays recorded in Germany, while holiday and other short-stay accommodation represented 22 per cent of the total accommodation spots of tourists in June of 2022.
About 10.7 million nights were spent on camping grounds, and four million in other accommodation related to tourism, representing 13 per cent and nine per cent of the total overnight stays for this period, respectively.
The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly affected tourism as the number of arrivals in Germany dropped from 39.5 million in 2019 to 12.4 million, which has more than halved.
The increasing number of tourists can be linked to the fact that Germany has been considered an attractive destination for visitors. As a new study by Mabrian, a data provider for travel intelligence, reveals, the German capital of Berlin has been ranked in the top ten cities with a higher degree of visitor statistician.
The key factors for determining this result were air capacity, number of flight seats, direct flight routes, global satisfaction, security, tourist product, climate and hotel satisfaction index, as well as the average hotel prices.
The best ten cities for quality and price for the month of June were:
- Zagreb (Croatia)
- Athens (Greece)
- Ljubljana (Slovenia)
- Rome (Italy)
- Vienna (Austria)
- Lisbon (Portugal)
- Madrid (Spain)
- Milan (Italy)
- Dubrovnik (Croatia)
- Berlin (Germany)
