The UK’s biggest tour operator is adding to the number of aircraft based at one of its busiest hubs to meet the demand for summer travel. It will also increase the frequency of flights to a selection of its most popular destinations.

TUI will base the extra jet at Manchester Airport throughout the summer with more flights to seven different resorts, including Greek hotspots Kefalonia, Rhodes and Crete, as well as Turkey, Majorca, and Cyprus. As Turkey continues to rise as a popular short-haul destination offering excellent value for the summer, TUI will operate a large programme from Manchester Airport with 21 flights operating per week to Dalaman and Antalya.

For customers looking for longer than a seven-night stay, TUI will increase holiday durations to offer more 10/11-night holidays from Manchester to Greece, Majorca, Cyprus, and Turkey.

Richard Sofer, TUI’s commercial and business development director, said: “Summer holidays are an important way for our customers to relax and reconnect with loved ones, and that’s never been more important than this year. To ensure we’re offering maximum flexibility and choice we’ve increased the number of flights to our most popular summer destinations with an extra based aircraft at Manchester Airport.

“We’re delighted that international travel is bouncing back and the forecast for this summer’s holiday season is bright.”

Karen Smart, managing director at Manchester Airport, added: “It’s great to see TUI increase capacity at Manchester Airport for this summer, which I am sure will be popular with the 22 million people in our vast catchment area. With the easing of travel restrictions last month, we are seeing more and more customers looking to take a well-deserved break after so long, so it’s great to have this additional choice available to them.”

TUI has also announced additional flights to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, beginning in April. It will add an extra weekly flight to Cancun, Mexico, from London Gatwick from April 6 and one from Manchester from April 3. TUI will now be operating 17 flights per week to its top long-haul sun destination.

Second on the long-haul hot list is Dominican Republic and an extra weekly flight from Manchester to Punta Cana from April 3 takes TUI’s weekly flight total to eight during Easter and into summer.
