Two North Wales towns have made the list of the top ten seaside destinations in the UK. Which? has revealed the results of its annual survey based on the experiences of thousands of holidaymakers.
This saw a top ten announced with four of that list in Wales. This included Llandudno – which came in second, with only Bamburgh in Northumberland ranking higher.
The historic town of Conwy also made it – at ninth place on the list. The other Welsh resorts in the top ten were Tenby and St David’s in Pembrokeshire.

Llandudno was dubbed “budget-friendly” by Which? and had an overall score of 86 per cent. They said the town’s biggest draw is the Great Orme, the limestone headland which rises to nearly 700ft and boasts ‘incomparable’ views.
Which? notes that Llandudno, which has twin West and North Shore beaches, has reasonably priced hotels – £95 a night on average. The town has bounced back strongly after being impacted by the pandemic lockdowns. This has seen hotels reopened after falling into administration and retailers snapping up spare units.
Conwy also scored highly with its quay and the 13th century castle featuring as its highlights – as well as the location on the edge of Snowdonia. The town centre is also benefitting from strong footfall with high demand for shop and restaurant space.

Other Welsh destinations on the wider list include Saundersfoot, Aberystwyth and Swansea. The results are based on a survey of 4,303 Which? Connect members.
Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, said: “The British seaside hasn’t boomed like this since the 1960s. Holidaymakers had such a fantastic time in their caravans, tents and beach lodges over the past two years that a coastal break on home shores is on the cards for many, even with restrictions on overseas travel lifted. Prices for a UK stay have increased, but there’s no need to pay over the odds. For a holiday on a budget it’s best to aim for an off-season trip. Head to one of the many well priced resorts with your bucket and spade, an empty stomach for the candyfloss and a pile of 2p coins and go make your fortune on the slots.”
