We’re always hesitant to encourage travel to the Caribbean islands during the Atlantic Hurricane Season, which lasts from June 1 through November 30. Every hurricane season is different, but we would hate for you all to be stranded.
But some islands are an exception. Aruba is one of them as it sits below the Hurricane belt. While anything is possible during this turbulent season, direct hits from Hurricanes are pretty rare in Aruba. The last recorded storm was a Category 2 in 2007, followed by reported wind and flood damage from the tail end of Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
Generally speaking, Aruba is a good destination if you want to travel to the Caribbean while minimalizing the risks this summer.
Regarding what to do, The World’s Happiest Island is known for its beautiful beaches, water sports, and activities. We can’t forget the island’s famous Flamingo Beach at the Renaissance Hotel.
One thing we highly recommend, however, is renting a car to explore the island and take in the stunning views. Read more on our Aruba activity guide here.
Those departing from the East Coast have the best flight deals to Aruba for less than $400 round-trip.
