Two popular Scottish locations have been named in the top three mountain holiday destinations in the UK in 2022.
For some people relaxing is the top priority on holiday but for those with a more adventurous streak, there are two Scottish locations they should be heading to.
The first, the Highlands, was named top in the exciting list, with the second, Aberdeenshire placing in third just behind the Lake District in Cumbria, reports Aberdeen Live.
With people looking to get out on adventures after nearly two years of the pandemic locking the country down, outdoor experts Blacks have ranked the most popular mountain destinations on a number of factors including the number of peaks and walking trails, Instagrammability, accommodation prices, and Google searches.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “From the Himalayas to the Dolomites, the world is home to some spectacular mountain ranges if you’re a lover of hiking and spectacular views, but there are also some great mountains right here on our doorstep in the British Isles.
“So, whether you’re able to get overseas this year or want to see what peaks are on offer closer to home, where are the best mountain holiday destinations?”
Putting together the data, they’ve created the top 15 best destinations in the UK for a mountain holiday, with no less than four Scottish regions making the final list.

Rated top for soaring peaks, almost half of the 120 P600 classification mountains in the UK (a peak with a prominence above 600 m) can be found in the Highlands.
The Highlands also came out on top for having the most trails with camping available (650), and of course for being the most Instagrammable with some of the scenery and views on offer the best you’ll find anywhere in the world.
Aberdeenshire was rated highly not only for being the driest of the top 15, with an annual rainfall of just 836 mm, but also for having the cheapest accommodation with a night’s stay in Peterhead coming in at around just £38.
Other Scottish locations named on the shortlist included Stirling (15th) and Argyll and Bute (14th).
Speaking about the research, Kiera Baxter, adventurer and marketing executive at Blacks, said: “A great mountain holiday is all in the planning.
“It’s vital to take your time planning everything from your routes to your accommodation to ensure you’ve considered all eventualities and don’t get caught out.
“Back up your routes with safer alternatives and have a plan in mind for the unexpected.
“The biggest priorities being a close eye on your weather conditions, daylight hours and a solid idea in mind about your supply stops and accommodation.
“Remember being prepared doesn’t mean you can’t be spontaneous. One of my favourite things to do is plan a multi-day trip with a few route variations, ensuring the kit I have packed is suitable for all, so I can take my pick on the day!”
