CORFU – The island of Corfu in the Ionian Sea claims one of the top positions as a preferred holiday destination for tourists from both Greece and abroad.

According to the head of the staff union of the Corfu Civil Aviation Authority, Dimitris Roussos, over 300,000 tourists from abroad arrived at Ioannis Kapodistrias airport in June, while the number of tourist arrivals is expected to rise in July.

Specifically, 1827 international flights landed at Corfu airport in June, of which 600 were from the UK, 341 from Germany, 178 from Italy, 134 from Poland and 92 from France, while it was remarkable that after three years, flights from Scandinavian countries are operating, Roussos said.

At the same time, the president of Corfu hoteliers union Babis Voulgaris reported satisfactory tourist arrivals as “June ended with the occupancy rate between 70-90 percent in hotels, while July is approaching, based on reservations, 80-90 percent in the large hotels of the island.|

“The messages are very encouraging,” said Voulgaris to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
