Greece has been ranked in the sixth position in terms of best destinations for travel for this year by the readers of Condé Nast traveller magazine.

They have chosen Greece as the best holiday destination among the different countries of the world to travel to. While European countries dominated this year’s Reader’s Choice Awards list, Greece came in sixth with a score of 89.97, just ahead of Denmark and the United Kingdom, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to the same magazine, Portugal has been ranked in the first position in this list with a score of 91.22, followed by Japan, Thailand, and Singapore.

However, this year the Hellenic Republic has made a strong comeback considering that tourist arrivals continued their upward trend. In this regard, the Greek Minister of Tourism, Vassilis Kikilias, confirmed that the country is expected to break the levels before the 2019 pandemic this year.

According to him, Greece is aiming to surpass the 2019 figures from the record revenues of 2022. Kikilias also added that the exact figures would be announced at the end of the season.

“However, if things go smoothly, tourism revenue will exceed 2019 levels. Greece’s upgraded tourism product supports hundreds of professions and feeds the average Greek family,” he noted.

The Minister of Tourism also emphasised that, as an indicator of the dynamics, all popular tourist destinations in Greece are full, with occupancy levels exceeding 90 per cent in Crete, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, and Kos.

Recently, during the European Gala Ceremony of the World Travel Awards 2022 dedicated to the tourism sector, Greece received numerous honours.

In the 29th edition of the World Travel Awards for this year, also known as the Oscars of Tourism, Athens was considered as Europe’s Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination.

Moreover, a large number of hotels in the Hellenic Republic were honored in different categories, while Greek travel agencies and specialised tourism offices were voted with high prices.

At the same time, a total of 17 awards were won by the Hellenic Republic, among them the category of the main beach resort in Europe, as well as the main categories of the beach in Europe, the Main Boutique Hotel in Europe, the main Boutique Resort in Europe and the main categories of the resort of European conferences for this year.

According to Greek authorities, in September 2022, international arrivals at the country’s regional airports exceeded pre-pandemic figures.

As a result, the Ministry of Tourism revealed that arrivals at Greece’s regional airports increased by 7.2 percent in September compared to the same month in 2019.
