Brilliant boat trips – whether they are on a city riverboat, across a lake to an uninhabited island or along rocky islets crowded with seabirds – can linger long in the memory for their unexpected views, encounters with wildlife and simply the feeling of being on the water.

Please share details of guided excursions, kayaking sagas, ferries … but not cruises or canal holidays on this occasion.

The trip could have been anywhere in the world, from whale watching off the California coast to the fast Clipper commuter boat from London down to the Thames Barrier.

If you have a relevant photo, do send it in – but it’s your words that will be judged for the competition.

The best tip of the week, chosen by Tom Hall of Lonely Planet, will win a £200 voucher to stay at a Sawday’s property – the company has more than 3,000 in the UK and Europe. The best tips will appear on the Guardian Travel website, and maybe in the paper, too.
