Delta Air Lines is set to offer travelers more Trans-Atlantic flights to various different European destinations this year. Despite the pandemic making travel to Europe difficult for American travelers throughout the past two years, the Trans-Atlantic flight corridor has remained popular throughout, with many different airlines recently confirming new routes between Europe and the US. Not one to miss out, Delta is set to get in on the action too.
The second largest airline in the US and one of the oldest in the world, Delta’s decision to add more routes and frequencies between the two continents comes as they look to take advantage of what could be a bumper summer of travel, with restrictions on both ends slowly but surely being reduced and travelers keen to explore once more. Here’s a closer look at which of Delta’s Trans-Atlantic routes are getting a boost.
Delta Route Frequencies Increased – Information For Travelers
Delta will be increasing the frequency of flights to Amsterdam’s Airport Schiphol (AMS), a hub for their partner airline KLM. The details are as follows:
- Delta will start operating a second weekly flight from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) from May 21st. One service will be on the Airbus A330-900neo and the other will be on the A330-300
- From Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP), Delta will add a second daily flight starting on May 5th and three more weekly frequencies from June 1st. Routes will be served by a mix of Airbus A330neo, A330-200, and A330-300 aircraft
London Heathrow Airport, another travel hub of partner airline Virgin Atlantic, will also see its frequencies increased. The changes are:
- Flights from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) will become daily from April 10th
- A second daily flight from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) will be added from April 10th
- Flights from Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP) will be daily from April 10th
- Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) will see its flight frequencies increased to daily from April 1st, before being boosted further to 12 flights per week from May 2nd.
Delta is also set to increase the frequency of flights to another partner hub airline, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), with daily flights from Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) from April 10th.
However, it isn’t just partner hub airports that will see their frequencies boosted, with several other destinations also benefiting from increased routes. On May 5th, twice-daily flights to Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and daily flights to Brussels Airport (BRU) will start from New York’s JFK airport, whilst daily flights from New York to Edinburgh Airport will launch on May 26th.
As well as JFK airport, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) will also see its Trans-Atlantic services expanded. Daily flights to Munich Airport (MUC) will begin from May 5th, whilst daily flights to another German city, Frankfurt, will begin on the following day – giving travelers even more opportunities to explore all the country has to offer.
Unfortunately for travelers, there are some cuts to Delta’s routes too. Flights between JFK and Athens, Greece, will be reduced to just a daily service from 11 flights in May, whilst flights to Milan’s Malpensa Airport (MXP) will fall to 12 per week, down from 14. Despite this, travelers will still have a wide range of flights to Europe to choose from, giving them plenty of options for vacations this summer.
