A Carnival activity meant to have fun together was the result when a switch started the countdown for travel, tourism and the ball to drop.

In flipping the switch, the New Years Eve Ball at Times Square in Manhattan started the countdown for a travel, tourism and a new year of cruising the world in 2023.

2023 is starting out to become a very good year for the travel, tourism and cruise industry – and the switch was turned in New York. New York is seen as the center of the world for New Years.

New Year in freezing in New York is one of the most popular travel and tourism event in the world, year after year.

Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy and Chief Culinary Officer Emeril Lagasse joined the Times Square Alliance President of Countdown Entertainment Jeffrey Straus tonight, along with their families, to flip the switch that lit New York City’s famous New Year’s Eve Ball for the countdown to 2023.

The Times Square Alliance, founded in 1992, works to improve and promote Times Square – cultivating the creativity, energy and edge that have made the area an icon of entertainment, culture and urban life for over a century.

In addition to providing core neighborhood services with its Public Safety Officers and Sanitation Associates, the Alliance:

  • Promotes local businesses
  • Encourages economic development and public improvements
  • Co-coordinates numerous major events in Times Square, including the annual New Year’s Eve and Solstice in Times Square celebrations
  • Curates and presents public art projects throughout the district via Times Square Arts.
  • Advocates on behalf of its constituents with respect to a host of public policy, planning and quality-of-life issues

The Alliance’s district covers most of the territory from 40th Street to 53rd Street between 6th and 8th Avenues, as well as Restaurant Row (46th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue).

Duffy and Lagasse invited everyone celebrating in New York and watching from home to “Choose Fun Together,” which is also the theme of Carnival’s 2023 advertising campaign that can be seen throughout Times Square.

At the same time, the iconic ball was lit in Times Square, and nearly 100,000 guests on board Carnival ships fleetwide also kicked off celebrations to ring in the new year.
