LANGKAWI – Tourism Malaysia is taking travel trade partners and media on a tour of Langkawi on its familiarisation trip to promote Malaysia as a safe holiday destination in anticipation to welcome more international travellers once the border is fully reopened.

A total of 7 travel agents and 3 media, including content creators, were brought from the Singapore market aboard Malaysia Airlines to join in this collaboration with the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) from 27 February to 3 March 2022.

Tourism Malaysia’s fam trips are designed to offer valuable opportunities for international tour operators and media to gain firsthand experience of travelling in Malaysia. This year’s fam trip for Singaporean travel trade partners marks the resumption of this successful marketing initiative after the programme came to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participants have the opportunity to ride the Langkawi Skycab – the world’s steepest cable car, explore the largest interactive 3D museum in Malaysia at 3D Art Langkawi, discover eco-friendly private island at Paradise 101 and visit the Underwater World Langkawi as well as participate in Kubang Badak Mangrove Tour.

The mangrove tour is part of Kubang Badak BioGeoTrail – Langkawi’s newest eco-tourism destination, which has been awarded the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Gold Awards 2021 under the Heritage Category. The delegation will also embark on a day cruise, city tour and shopping in Langkawi.

Dato’ Hj. Zainuddin Abdul Wahab, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia said, “Singapore continues to be the key source market for Malaysia, especially when the international travel gradually resumes with the Langkawi International Travel Bubble (LITB) as well as land and air Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) between Malaysia and Singapore since November 2021.”

“The VTL scheme has opened doors for international travel with a total of 171,583 travellers from Singapore have benefited from this initiative for both air and land options as of 14 February 2022,” Zainuddin said.

Chief Executive of LADA, Nasaruddin Abdul Muttalib hosted a welcome dinner at Kunang-Kunang Heritage Villas, and participants attended a tourism networking event with presentation and tourism product briefing by Langkawi industry players at The Danna Langkawi.
